Biography

Dr. Herget has been a full time Associate Professor and the Director of the Intensive Clinical Training Program since 2002. Over the past 28 years, Dr Herget has taught courses in couples and family therapy, brief and narrative therapy, and consultation and supervision at a variety of Bay Area graduate schools, including Alliant International University (formerly California School of Professional Psychology), the Wright Institute, California State University at Hayward, and the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her particular areas of interest and expertise include narrative therapy practices and one-way mirror clinical training. Prior to coming to Argosy University, Dr Herget was the Clinical Director of the Redwood Center in Berkeley (1985-2000), a pre- and post-doctoral level training program serving low-income clients in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. A dissertation advisor since 1990, Dr. Herget has served as a chairperson or reader on more than 80 dissertation committees. Her research interests include qualitative and quantitative studies examining process and outcome variables contributing to client satisfaction with therapy, the application of narrative therapy ideas and practices, various issues related to clinical supervision, and working with transgender issues and clients. Dr. Herget is a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed marriage and family therapist in California. She maintains a private practice in San Francisco, where she provides therapy to individuals, couples, and families with diverse backgrounds and problems. She also offers individual and group consultation to psychotherapists in the community.
