Dr. Perl is Associate Professor and Chair of the Clinical Psychology Program at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, San Francisco Bay Area. He maintains an independent psychotherapy practice in Berkeley, where he works with adults and adolescents in both brief and long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Perl serves on the Board of Directors of the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC), and is former Chair. Dr. Perl also serves on the California Psychological Association (CPA) Board of Directors as the representative from Alameda County.
Prior to joining ASPP, Dr. Perl directed clinical training and served on the faculty at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, where he taught and supervised doctoral students. Dr. Perl has broad interests in standards and quality assurance in psychology education and training, clinical competencies, and professional development, and draws upon his many years of involvement with CAPIC and the Wright Institute. Dr. Perl has over a decade of experience assisting students in successfully navigating the internship application and selection process, as well as working with students to plan their clinical training sequence and develop their career goals.
Dr. Perl is a graduate of The Wright Institute, and trained at the California Pacific Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry, where he served as Chief Intern in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Dr. Perl conducted child assessments for eight years working as a School Psychologist in Marin County, and worked eight years as a medical staff psychologist at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center providing intake and inpatient crisis assessment.
