Argosy University's College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences offers programs designed for those interested in various mental health professions. Some programs can prepare graduates for licensure as psychologists, counselors or therapists. Other programs can prepare individuals to work in fields that apply psychology, like corrections, addictions, sports/exercise, or religious institutions, hospitals, and clinics.
All of our programs focus on preparing practitioners who are grounded in the fundamentals of sound behavioral science and able to use and apply clinical and scientific research and scholarship. We value ethical practice that is sensitive to issues of diversity and multiculturalism.Personal development is central to the professional training anddevelopment of mental health professionals. Our Focus
The College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences recognizes that mental health professionals have unique professional identities: psychologists, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and mental health specialists. Psychology Programs
Argosy offers programs in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, and various fields of applied psychology, including Forensic Psychology, Sport-Exercise Psychology, Pastoral Community Counseling, and Industrial Organizational Psychology. These programs were formerly known collectively as the American School of Professional Psychology.
Counseling Programs
The Counselor Education programs provide training at a master's level and are designed to prepare graduates for entry-level licensure to practice as a counselor. Each master's degree program is geared toward licensure requirements for the state in which the campus is located. For those already licensed as counselors, we offer a doctorate (EdD) in Counselor Education and Supervision. This program offers advanced training that prepares graduates to supervise master's-level counselors, teach in higher education counseling programs, and serve as administrators in counseling-related clinics and agencies.
Marriage and Family Therapy
The marriage and family therapist programs are aligned with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) requirements for training marriage and family therapists. Argosy University offers the master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy and doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy. These programs offer intense supervision from faculty who are AAMFT certified supervisors. The master's degree may lead to licensure as a marriage and family therapist in many states. The doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy is not designed to lead to licensure.
