Argosy University, Seattle Future Leaders Community College Scholarship 2013

Argosy University, Seattle is pleased to announce the continuance of the Future Leaders Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. Applicants must have a completed associate’s degree* and must meet the admission requirements of Argosy University.

Our president, Dr. Tom Dyer (Seattle Central Community College, class of 1994), states: “At Argosy University, we believe in the importance ofcontributing to our community and we know that our community colleges graduate great students who can make a difference today and in the future.”

AWARD AMOUNT: Fourteen $5,000 bachelors degree tuition scholarships will be available for graduates of fourteen Puget Sound region community colleges for May 2013, September 2013, or January 2014*. There will be a maximum of one scholarship per college during each semester, however, graduates from a college with an applicant who was awarded a scholarship in May or September are eligible for September or January. The maximum for a given college for all award periods is three. The maximum number of scholarships per student is one.

All applicants will receive a tuition scholarship up to $2,000. The first $1,000 will be awarded upon enrollment. The second $1,000 will be awarded after completion of the first year. As of Fall 2012, full-time undergraduate tuition for an academic year (two semesters) is $12,240. Additionally, fees vary by program from $550 to $600 per semester.


• All campus offerings use a hybrid learning format (online courses available upon request). This format makes degree-seeking a reality for people with busy lives and multiple commitments.
• All classes are held at night or on the weekend, so people can work and go to school at the same time.
• Classes are small (typical student/instructor ratio is 10:1) and faculty are active. We believe in a “high touch” learning experience.

ELIGIBILITY: Students must have earned an associate’s degree from a community college* by the time they start classes at Argosy University, Seattle and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

CRITERIA: Recipients will be selected based on demonstrated writing skills, interpersonal effectiveness and professionalism. The first will be demonstrated through an essay, the latter two through an on-campus interview.

ESSAY: Write an essay (up to 1,000 words) addressing the following statement: “Describe an issue that you see impacting your community, your state, your country or the world in the future and, as a future leader, the approach you would take to addressing this issue.” Essay must be typed with your name and program of interest (Psychology, Criminal Justice, Business, or Liberal Arts) indicated on the title page.

INTERVIEW: Each applicant will have a 10 minute interview with members of the Argosy University, Seattle scholarship committee. Applicants should come prepared as if it were their first important job interview. Their essay will be discussed during the interview.

DECISION PROCESS: Argosy University, Seattle faculty and staff, campus alumni and current students, under the direction of the Academic Affairs Committee and the Undergraduate Admissions Committee may serve as scholarship committee members. Scholarship selection is based on the graduate’s essay as well as a face-to-face interview on campus. Decisions are made at the committee’s discretion and will be final.

In evaluating each essay, committee members will consider the following:
• Quality of concept and execution, development of the idea over the length of the essay, spelling, grammar, punctuation and proper citation of any sources referenced. The essays will be submitted to Plagiarized work will disqualify the applicant from receiving any scholarship.

In evaluating each interview, committee members will consider the following:
• Professional demeanor of applicant, ability to knowledgably discuss their essay subject, ability to respond to questions in an organized, relevant and cogent manner.
