PHOENIX, Ariz. Jul. 22, 2013-- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Phoenix and Argosy University, Phoenix are pleased to announce the winner of the Argosy University/Big Brothers Big Sisters Scholarship program. Tirsia Lopez, an employee of Big Brothers Big Sister of Central Phoenix has been awarded a scholarship worth $12,000.
The Argosy University/Big Brothers Big Sisters Scholarship program is designed to award tuition scholarships to attend Argosy University, Phoenix for those affiliated with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona organization.
Lopez was awarded a $3,000 annual tuition scholarship which can be renewed for each year of enrollment, up to four consecutive years and a total of $12,000 to attend Argosy University, Phoenix. She works part-time as a Bilingual Program Specialist at Big Brothers Big Sister of Central Arizona and full-time as a Family Support Specialist at Westside Head Start.
“My life purpose is to support, challenge, and encourage families who are pursuing their academic, personal, and professional goals which will improve the quality of life for themselves,” says Lopez. I hope one day to serve families by counseling, and finding effective ways to make their life experiences a success, because as a first-generation low-income migrant Latina I know how difficult it is to navigate through life when you have barriers. I will make a difference by supporting families affected with poverty by overcoming their obstacles, conquering their fears, and pursuing their dreams.”
