Sarasota Counselor Supervision Degree Program

EdD, Counselor Education & Supervision

Program Information

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in Counselor Education & Supervision (CES) program at Argosy University, Sarasota promotes students’ professional development and supports academic excellence while providing flexibility in program delivery.

Professional Development
The EdD in CES program meets students where they are and uses a developmental approach to develop students as counseling clinicians, educators, supervisors, and researchers. For example, the program includes a counseling seminar series that mentors students in professional presentations, publications, and leadership while the customized practicum internship experience develops the student as a clinician, professor, and supervisor.

Developmentally, students first take a course on teaching in higher education and then participate in three different levels of teaching with increased knowledge, skills, and responsibility at each level. A developmental process throughout the program supports continuous incremental growth that promotes student success.

Specialty Development
Along with professional development, students will develop specialty knowledge and skills in an area of their choosing. Argosy University, Sarasota faculty have extensive experience in clinical practice and teaching with expertise in addictions, crisis and trauma, forensics, grief and loss, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) issues, multiculturalism, spirituality, and wellness. However, students are not limited to those areas, but can develop expertise in any area of their choosing.

“The educational process was tailored to my personal development and the faculty mentorship allowed for much professional growth.”
— Joanne Jodry, Argosy University, Sarasota EdD in CES Graduate (2011)

“Mentorship is an integral part of the educational process; the encouragement and support received has been unparalleled.”
— Nicole Jackson, Argosy University, Sarasota EdD in CES Candidate

Academic Excellence
The curriculum offered in the EdD in CES program is continuously reviewed and refined to promote academic excellence and to align with current demands in the field. From course delivery that fits the content being taught (i.e. knowledge content can be taught effectively online, while skills benefit from a residency) to a balanced curriculum that addresses industry needs through an efficient 60-credit hour program, to strategic student and faculty evaluation processes that identify and remediate any challenges, the student gains value. Such academic rigor contributes to Argosy University, Sarasota’s EdD in CES program being accredited by the Council for Accreditation and Related Educational Programs (*CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

“The faculty and staff at Argosy University, Sarasota treat students in an unexpectedly collegial manner where we move from junior colleagues to more senior colleagues as we progress through the program.”
— Jim Payne, Argosy University, Sarasota EdD in CES Candidate
