Low-Cost Counseling Services Offered to the Community

DRAPER, UT (Oct. 20, 2012) -- Argosy University, Salt Lake City is pleased to announce the launch of its counseling clinic. Open to the public and designed to meet the mental health needs of the uninsured and underinsured, the clinic provides mental health counseling to residents of Salt Lake County. 

Under the direction of licensed faculty members, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy graduate students from Argosy University, Salt Lake City will provide professional counseling services for families, couples, individuals, and the Salt Lake City and surrounding communities at a cost of $10 per session.

"We believe the Argosy University Counseling Clinic will provide a vital service for the residents of Salt Lake City," said Argosy University, Salt Lake City campus president David Tietjen. "We are hopeful that this community collaboration will be an important service to individuals and families in our area."

Benjamin Erwin, PhD, LMFT, will serve as the clinic's clinical director and supervise the center's services. As an educator, Erwin created the Argosy University Counseling Clinic to provide students with practical hands-on training.

"Students and professors will now have the opportunity to interact both in the classroom and in a professional environment, allowing for the optimal teaching and learning experience," says Dr. Erwin. "It will cultivate important bonds and a mutual respect between students and professors, who will join forces for the good of their patients."

  • Parenting Assessments
  • Parenting Groups
  • Psychological Assessments
  • Social Skills Groups
  • Support Groups
  • Therapeutic Teams - A team of six graduate students and one supervisor work together with the client(s).
  • Co-Therapy Teams - Two therapists work with a family.
  • Reflecting Teams - Family strengths are discussed throughout the session while family members observe.
  • Videotaping Opportunities (with client's permission/consent) - Videotaping sessions allow the therapist and client(s) an opportunity to review their work.
