Argosy University Voluntary Participation in Yellow Ribbon Program Helps Veterans Offset Educational Costs

(PITTSBURGH – July 29, 2009)  Argosy University announced today that all Argosy University campuses have been approved to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program for undergraduate programs, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.

As a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, in states where Argosy University campuses have tuition rates greater than the amount that the GI Bill benefits cover, the campuses will voluntarily be able to provide a scholarship to veterans to help offset all or some of their education costs.  The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning the ability to assist with tuition costs exceeding the GI Bill’s current maximum benefit rate, based on the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate in the applicable state.  Argosy University campuses will contribute an additional amount to eligible veterans to offset the additional expenses and The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will match the amount the school contributed.  The amounts available and conditions depend on Argosy University campus locations and the in-state tuition rates.

“Argosy University is pleased to be able to assist our veterans and give back to those who bravely defended our nation and provide so much for our country,” says Dr. Craig Swenson, President of Argosy University.  “Argosy University takes pride in providing an educational opportunity to all the men and women who serve and have served in the armed forces as well as their family members who are entitled to these benefits.”

Veterans who have served at least 36 months of active duty following September 10, 2001, were honorably discharged after 30 days of active duty following September 10, 2001 and dependents eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post- 9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the two prior criteria listed are eligible for the funding provided by the program.

Eligible veterans may contact the local VA Certifying Official at the Argosy University campus they are interested in attending to learn more about the school’s Yellow Ribbon Program participation.
