Letter from the Dean

Dear Prospective Student,

I am so pleased that you are interested in the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Chicago (ISPP, Chicago). Our programs include a Master of Arts (MA) in Clinical Psychology program and an American Psychological Association accredited* Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology program.

We are proud of our institution’s teaching excellence, student focus and global engagement. Building on over three decades of experience teaching and training clinical psychologists, we invite students into a diverse, dynamic and intimate community of scholar-practitioners. Our faculty represents a broad multiplicity of perspectives and specific areas of expertise. This expertise, combined with our rigorous curriculum, provides many opportunities for students to pursue particular interests (such as forensic psychology, psychoanalytic theory and therapy, and child and adolescent psychology).

Since 1987, a centerpiece of our doctoral curriculum has been our required Personal and Professional Development course, an experiential learning model in a group format that emphasizes students’ personal and interpersonal development. We encourage a deep commitment to personal growth throughout the curriculum, especially with respect to learning about social and cultural differences. Students have many opportunities to get engaged in student groups, service projects, study abroad opportunities, and collaborations with faculty on professional presentations and publications.

At ISPP, Chicago, we care deeply about our relationships with students, and our faculty and supervisors provide close mentoring while students develop their clinical skills on their practicum experiences. For internship training, our students have the option of applying to our own Lake Michigan Internship Consortium – a great benefit to students who desire to remain in Chicago - or applying broadly in Chicago and nationally.

Please let us know if you have specific questions about our programs –or more general questions about professional training in clinical psychology. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Annemarie Slobig, PsyD
Dean and Program Chair
