Chicago's Sharma and Yarbrough Serve on RSVP Panel

Dr. Rahul Sharma and Dr. Sheila Yarbrough, instructors at Argosy University, Chicago, recently served as panelists at the 25th Anniversary celebration of Resources for Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) at the University of Chicago.

The event included a lunch that was followed by the panel discussion titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Prevention.”

Yarbrough is an associate faculty member and department chair at The Graduate School of Business and Management and Bachelor of Science programs at Argosy University, Chicago and Argosy University, Schaumburg. Sharma is an assistant professor and the coordinator of the diversity concentration. He’s also an assistant professor at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Chicago.

Schaumburg Campus Hosts Mental Health Summit

Argosy University, Schaumburg and the Center for Health Services recently presented the 2nd Annual Mental Health Summit. The event focused on the opioid crisis, overdose awareness and prevention.

Congressman Peter Roskam, who represents the 6th District of Illinois in Washington, DC, discussed the work he is doing to address the opioid crisis in the Schaumburg region. Upon his return to Washington, the congressman hoped to “reach across the aisle” to share what Argosy University, Schaumburg is doing to prepare students to work with clients struggling with opioid addiction.

Following the event, guest speaker Chris Reed spoke to news station WGN (9). Reed was commended for the work he’s accomplished through his addiction recovery program, New Directions.

Over 50 people attended the Mental Health Summit.

Argosy University and Best Buy Announce Partnership to Advance Education and Training for Best Buy Employees

ORANGE, CALIF. (May 15, 2018) — Argosy University has partnered with Best Buy to offer its employees more ways to advance their education.

All full- and part-time Best Buy employees, regardless of how many hours they work and including seasonal employees, can receive a 20 percent savings on the tuition rate when they attend one of the programs offered at Argosy University. The partnership tuition rate will apply to eligible students who are employees of Best Buy and who apply to, are accepted to, and attend one of the undergraduate or graduate degree programs at Argosy University after January 1, 2018. Employees who are already enrolled at Argosy University are also eligible on classes moving forward. Additionally, Best Buy offers tuition assistance for employees who pursue higher education.

Dr. Robert Eme Publishes Article in Aggression and Violent Behavior Peer-Reviewed Journal

Robert Eme, PhD, professor of clinical psychology, the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University | Schaumburg recently published an article entitled “Sex differences in temperament: A partial explanation for the sex difference in the prevalence of serious antisocial behaviors” in the Aggression and Violent Behavior peer-reviewed journal.

According to the article abstract, temperamental traits have long been understood to be important constructs for understanding normal and abnormal development. But their relevance to criminal justice has only recently been recognized. The paper explores how the sex difference in three temperamental dimensions contributed to the massive sex difference in the severest forms of antisocial behavior.

PRESENTERS:

DR. ARINA POLEVOY
Dr. Polevoy completed her internship specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Illinois Psychological Association Predoctoral Internship Consortium (IPAPIC), Psychological Consultations. Her internship experience involved assessment and treatment of individuals impacted by HIV as well as specialized treatment working with LGBTQ clients. Dr. Polevoy received her Doctorate from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Schaumburg in 2015 with a concentration in Neuropsychology.

She completed two-year post doctoral training at Northwest Behavioral Health Services as well as Thomson Memory Center, focusing on neuropsychological evaluations of pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Her clinical interests are in the area of assessment of a variety of clinical presentations including traumatic-brain injuries, HIV-related disorders, ADHD, Substance Use Disorders, and dementia.

VICTORIYA TSANAN

Dr. Tsaran is a licensed clinical psychologist. She graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Schaumburg in 2014. Dr. Tsaran completed her internship and post-doc at Bridge View Challenger Day School where she had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents and teenagers presenting with a variety of emotional issues and in need of an individualized education plan. Since then, Dr. Victoriya Tsaran opened her private practice located in Buffalo Grove. She works with a wide range of ages from adolescents to geriatric population presenting with a variety of symptoms and concerns. Her clinical interests include couples therapy, family therapy, adolescent issues, parental guidance and personality disorders. Dr. Tsaran has developed an eclectic perspective to therapy and utilizes a unique combination of psychotherapy, family systems therapy, emotion focused therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques.

DR. KRISTEN CARNEY | Dr. Carney serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Training for the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at ISPP, Schaumburg. She earned her doctorate degree from Wheaton College where she focused on the area of clinical psychology and completed additional coursework on the
integration of spirituality and psychology.

DR. CAMERON BREWER | Dr. Brewer serves as the Program Dean of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at ISPP Schaumburg and also coordinates the program’s neuropsychology concentration. Dr. Brewer also holds a MLitt research degree in cognitive neuroscience from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, where he applied event-related potentials to an investigation of word recognition.
