Eating Disorders: An Integrative Approach to Treatment
A Seminar presented by the Anorexia and Bulimia Center of Hawaii in cooperation with Argosy University, Hawaii
Friday, July 21 at Argosy University 1001 Bishop Street, Honolulu
9:00am-5:15pm

This one-day presentation will provide psychologists, counselors, social workers, dietitians, physicians, students, and other interested professionals the opportunity to learn about the serious, epidemic problem of eating disorders and a philosophy of integrative care evolved over thirty years of clinical experience.

Our lead presenter, Dr. Anita Johnston, clinical psychologist, is one of the nation’s foremost experts in the eating disorders field, a best-selling author, and in-demand trainer and workshop leader. Dr. Sarah Canyon is a family practice physician in private practice. Jen Draper, RD is the only dietitian in Hawaii certified as an eating disorders specialist by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. Dr. Steve Orenstein, clinical psychologist, has a long history in Hawaii in program development, most notably the ‘Ai Pono eating disorders treatment programs.

Among the topics explored in this seminar will be:

  • Cracking the Hunger Code to understand eating disorders
  • Levels of care and diagnostic criteria
  • Medical complications and the role of the physician in treatment
  • The role of the dietitian/nutritionist on the eating disorders team
  • The therapeutic model of care

The fee for this one-day seminar is just $25 and will be waived for students. Continuing Education credits (6) will be available for psychologists and dietitians. CE credits for marriage and family therapists are pending. Local associations may charge a fee for CE certifications.*

Dr. Patrick Kamakawiwo’ole, PsyD, Core Faculty and Director of Internship

Topic: A Career in Private Practice
Dr. Kamakawiwo’ole’s areas of specialization include: identity development, diverse and marginalized populations, LGBTIQ, HIV/AIDS primary and secondary prevention, Asian and Pacific Islander populations, Identity development, interpersonal and experiential theory and therapeutic interventions, family and group dynamics, program development, consultation and supervision.

Dr. Sean W. Scanlan, PhD, Program Dean and Associate Professor
Topic: Child Therapy
Dr. Scanlan has worked for over a decade, with hundreds of children and adolescents as a therapist, behavioral consultant, parent trainer, treatment program director, teacher, and coach. Dr. Scanlan specializes in autism spectrum disorder and externalizing behavior disorders.
