The Master of Arts (MA) in School Counseling degree program at Argosy University, Tampa in Tampa, Florida, is designed to provide you with the basic counseling skills that integrate individual and group theoretical foundations into appropriate client interaction and intervention skills.

The MA is School Counseling program is committed to educating and training you to pursue a professional career as master’s-level practitioner with a demonstrated knowledge of social and cultural diversity and in adherence to the principles of the American School Counselor Association.

Career Outcomes
This program can prepare you to become a school counselor who will be qualified to help guide students through the primary and secondary education systems as well as continuing education programs in colleges, universities, technical and trade schools.

Eligibility for Certification
The Master of Arts in School Counseling degree program focuses on student preparation and professional development. The completion of the program will permit students to request a transcript review by the Florida Department of Education for certification in Guidance and Counseling (grades K-12) in the state of Florida.

Only the MAED in Educational Administration and the EdS and EdD in Initial Educational Administration lead to Florida Principal certification upon completion of all state and program requirements, including passage of all required Florida state licensure exams. MA in School Counseling has been approved for school psychologists certification/licensure, or endorsement in the State of Florida. Completion of the program will permit students to request licensure through the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) for certification as school counselors, pending the successful completion of other requirements. Students are individually and solely responsible for knowing the certification requirements in their state of residence if such residence is outside of the State of Florida. Students are also eligible to apply to become Nationally Certified School Psychologists in a process designed for graduates of non-NASP approved programs.
