The Associate of Science (AS) degree program in Medical Laboratory Technology can provide students with the education, training, and entry-level skills required to enter the workforce as competent Medical Laboratory Technicians. Students who graduate with an Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology are qualified to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) National Board of Certification exam.

Accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences*, our Medical Laboratory Technology program offers flexible schedules. Classes meet one day each week over a 15-week academic term, allowing students to integrate their academic schedules into their work and personal lives. Students also have the opportunity to receive one-on-one attention from faculty by participating in open labs and tutoring sessions.

About the Medical Laboratory Technology AS Degree at Argosy University, Twin Cities

Medical Laboratory Technology program must complete 75 credit hours of study, including 30 credit hours of General Education. Students choose a Track I or Track II curriculum outline. Full-time students following the recommended Track I curriculum can complete the program in 24 months. (The maximum allowable timeframe to complete the Track I curriculum is 36 months.) Full-time students following the Track II curriculum outline can complete the program in 16 months. (The maximum allowable timeframe to complete the Track II curriculum is 24 months.)

What knowledge and skills can I gain from completing the Twin Cities Medical Laboratory Technology Program?

Our curriculum is designed to teach laboratory skills in all major areas of the clinical laboratory, including phlebotomy, urinalysis, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunohematology.
We support our students from orientation through graduation and beyond, as they prepare for their ASCP board of certification exam. We work with students individually to help them master lecture concepts and laboratory skills so they’re fully prepared for successful careers. We also strive to support students in developing critical thinking skills and cultivating professional behaviors from the outset of the program.

What career opportunities are there for graduates of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program?

Students who complete the program and pass the ASCP board exam are strong candidates for employment in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology. Many of our students are employed by major regional hospital systems. Some choose to pursue careers in local clinics, private reference laboratories, or medical sales. Others continue their education and complete their bachelor’s degrees in Medical Technology, which positions them for careers in laboratory management. Students enjoy excellent networking opportunities at American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science events hosted on campus.
