Additional degrees offer expanded opportunities

Vishwani Shirvana Ram-Souza completed an Associate of Applied Science degree in Histotechnology from the Medical Institute of Minnesota, now Argosy University, Twin Cities. Upon graduation, she began her career as a histotechnician at Allina Mercy and Unity Hospital, a non-profit network health care service providers, caring for people throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

While working full-time, Ram-Souza returned to the Twin Cities campus and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. With the enhanced credentials of an additional degree, Vishwani stepped into the Lead Supervisor position at Mercy and Unity Hospital. In this capacity, she now handles multiple responsibilities. She schedules technicians, performs daily workflow analyses, and addresses personnel issues. She also trains new employees, troubleshoots daily issues in the labs, consults with other Allina network providers, and participates on a system-wide quality control and quality analysis team.

Ram-Souza takes pride in being part of a team that delivers fast and accurate diagnoses to anxious patients. Working with people of all ages, genders and nationalities, she is in “constant awe” at the way she integrates and utilizes her histotechnology and psychology degrees.

Still in pursuit of knowledge, Ram-Souza is currently enrolled in the master’s degree program in Marriage and Family Therapy at the Twin Cities campus. “Argosy University provided a yearning to further my education by creating an outlook where every day was an opportunity to mature, evolve, and gain knowledge,” she said.
