Tabitha Mpamira and Luciano Lima, who are working toward Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology degrees at The Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University | Chicago, were recently awarded a Valuing Difference Scholarship from Live Oak, Inc. The scholarship encourages and supports new clinicians who are aligned with the values of Live Oak.
Live Oak is an organization that recognizes the consequences of privilege, oppression, discrimination and stigma. It encourages practice psychotherapy, consultation, and training that affirms the value of difference. Its affirmative and inclusive approach is based on an understanding of an integrative change process, and provides clients with opportunities to reduce the disintegrating effects of power and privilege to promote self- actualization and integration.
To be considered for the scholarship, Mpamira and Lima wrote an essay to describe how their professional goals related to the values that serve as the framework for the organization. They discussed how they’d use the scholarship award in a way that is consistent with Live Oak’s values.
