(November 2015) Argosy University, Online Programs 2015 Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership graduate Dr. Ashanti Foster, NBCT, was named Assistant Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals. Foster serves as academic dean and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Coordinator at Oxon Hill Middle School in Prince George’s County, Maryland, a role she has held since 2012. In addition, she is an AVID national staff developer, presenter, and author.
Dr. Foster earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Morgan State University. She earned her master’s degree in secondary education from Bowie State University while teaching in the school district she grew up in, Prince George’s County, MD. She served as a middle school reading language arts teacher, then AVID elective teacher for 11 years before achieving national board certification in 2010.
Dr. Foster is a passionate community volunteer and advocate, working with groups such as the Girls Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, National Council of Negro Women the Prince George’s County Parent Teacher Association.
