Chicago Campus to Host Webinar Featuring Former NFL Player Adrian Peterson

Argosy University, Chicago is pleased to present a webinar entitled “Finding Your Path,” featuring former professional NFL player, Adrian Peterson. The event will take place Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11 am CST.

 

Adrian will be sharing his story during the webinar and encouraging people to pursue their education.

 

Adrian N. Peterson was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2002. Peterson spent 8 seasons with the NFL team, including the 2006 NFC Championship season and Super Bowl XLI. Now a motivational speaker, Peterson has traveled from state to state sharing his message to others to encourage and motivate them to strive and reach their goals in life. His book, Don’t Dis My Abilities is an autobiography about Peterson’s successes despite his challenges.

Dr. Lee Underwood Discusses Issue of Suicide in LifeZette

Dr. Lee A. Underwood, faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Argosy University, Phoenix, recently was quoted in LifeZette.com stating that, “most suicide victims die as a result of a mental illness,” Underwood is a licensed clinical psychologist, and in the article focused on suicide, explains that, “nobody kills themselves without being depressed.” He states that just as family members would rally behind someone with cancer — so should they accept and help family members struggling with mental illness. “Look at it as another area of health, like diabetes or high blood pressure. Realize that depression is a treatable illness,” he said.

Schaumburg Grad Dr. Stubenrauch Awarded "Diplomate in Police Psychology"

Scott Stubenrauch, Psy.D, who in 2006 earned a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University | Schaumburg, was named  "Diplomate in Police Psychology" by The Society for Police and Criminal Psychology (SPCP).

 

Police psychology encompasses many specialized services provided to law enforcement agencies by psychologists, such as pre-employment psychological testing, specialty assignment and fitness-for-duty evaluations, organization development, training, hostage negotiation team consultation, and critical incident stress debriefing. Stubenrauch was given the distinction because he demonstrated to a board of peers his expertise in the history, theory, principles, practices, techniques and ethics of police psychology.

 

He is one of fewer than 60 professionals who hold this status. This honor was given to him at the 42nd annual conference of the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, Austin, Texas on September 28, 2016.

Nashville’s Dr. Roger Widmer Appointed to the Board of Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee

Dr. Roger Widmer, campus president for Argosy University, Nashville, has been appointed to the board of Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee. He will chair the Education and Program Committee for the organization.

 

Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee (formerly known as Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee) was founded in 1946 by Vanderbilt’s first Chair of Psychiatry, Dr. Frank Luton with underwriting by the Junior League of Nashville.  Their mission is to connect the community with specialized mental health and wellness resources, provide services that improve the quality of life, and promote effective services where mental health needs exist.  Over the years, the MHAMT has worked diligently to educate all members of the community about how to attain good mental health.

 

"Dr. Widmer is a natural fit," states Dr. Tom Starling, CEO of Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee.  Starling specifically highlighted Dr. Widmer's knowledge of evidence-based practices and Middle Tennessee resources.

 

Roger Widmer, Ed.D. serves as President of Argosy University, Nashville. He brings a wealth of higher education experience to Argosy University, having served in numerous capacities with other institutions such as Ambassador University, Mountain State University, DeVry University, and Kaplan University. He most recently served as the Campus President for Ellis University in Chicago and he has previously served as Campus President of Argosy University, Schaumburg.  Dr. Widmer holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Ambassador College, an MA in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, and an EdD in Higher Education from the University of Sarasota.

VP of Software-as-a-Service Company Used by Businesses Worldwide

Stephen Griffin is the vice president of strategy at ThinkWise, a software-as-a-service company. The company creates online assessments and leadership surveys—and the solutions are used throughout the world.

Stephen says that he began working toward his Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology degree after completing an internship with the Devereux Foundation. “I soon started consulting within police psychology, applying science to the law enforcement community. In time, I built a passion for creating solutions and worked within the test publishing community. I started working as an internal consultant at Spectrum Health, building organizational initiatives around leadership, hiring practices, and team development.”

Stephen, who in 2005 earned a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Chicago, says that he recently returned to his test publishing roots, helping to run ThinkWise. “Businesses and consultants around the world use our solutions in their important work. Building and creating psychological solutions for the masses is what I love doing the most.”

Stephen has served as the education chair for the American Psychological Association's division 18 (Police Psychology), past chair of the International Association of Chiefs of Police-Psychological Services Section, past resident of the Police and Criminal Psychology, past board member of the clinical division of the Association of Test Publishers, and also as a founding member of the American Board of Professional Psychology’s Police and Public Safety Board. His professional certifications include Licensed Psychologist, Board Certified Specialist (ABPP), and Human Capital Strategist.
