Assistant Professor, Health Care Consultant, Case Manager Helping Unassisted Minors who Enter United States

Michael Castro is an assistant professor at Miami Dade College and also works as a business and health care consultant. “I consult with different business owners and chief executive officers and talk about different topics [that can help] to improve their organizations.” He’s additionally employed by CHSI, Comprehensive Health Solutions. “I am a manager of all the case managers. The main focus is to assist unaccompanied minors that cross the border into the United States and reunify them with any legal guardian or family member within the United States.”

Michael began his career in the health care industry in 2010, while working toward his bachelor’s degree. He continued his education, completing a Master of Business Administration in 2012, then began teaching for Carlos Albizu Univerisity in Doral, Florida. During his tenure at Carlos Albizu, Michael began pursuit of his Doctor of Business Administration in Business Administration at Argosy University, Online Programs. He completed the program in 2015.

He says that one of the biggest challenges he faced while pursing his doctorate was working 60+ hours a week—while also going to school full time. With perseverance, he completed the program in just under three years. Michael says that he chose to attend Argosy University, Online programs on the recommendation of his personal friend, who is an alumni of the school and works as a professor. While in school, Michael gained industry knowledge through program-required residencies and by writing a dissertation.

He recommends that current students stay motivated and focused. “Always give 110% effort on everything you do. You do not want to live life with regrets.”

He is thankful for the doors that have opened since graduation. “[Since I graduated] from Argosy University, Online Programs, I have received numerous opportunities that I would not have received before.” And Michael cites his instructors for preparing him well for his current career. “They provided me with great real-life examples and advice.”
