Georgia Mallak felt a lifelong connection to animals and took that passion into college to pursue an Associate of Applied Science in Veterainary Technology. “I am now a certified veterinary technician,” she said. “On a regular day I will take appointments, assist in surgeries and run labwork. My veterinary hospital sees dogs, cats, and exotics such as birds, reptiles and rodents.”

She chose Argosy University, Twin Cities because of its career-focused program. “I felt comfortable moving from the classroom into my place of work,” she added. “Without the knowledge I received from Argosy University, I would not be in the place I am today.” Mallak added that her instructors prepared her for her career with their real-world experience, leadership and mentoring. “They took the time to explain and teach the career that they love, so they could pass that same compassion onto me. There was never any doubt throughout my education that my instructors loved their jobs, and wanted to share that with me. I am forever grateful to them for showing me that being a veterinary technician was a powerful role—and exactly what I wanted to be.”

Her education also provided the tools needed to feel confident when applying for jobs. “I’ve never been in a situation at work that my education didn’t prepare me for,” she stated.

Mallak admitted that she’s faced challenges getting to know the exotic animals her clinic treats. “I felt that the knowledge I learned from my classes helped me to feel comfortable restraining the animals and prepared me for the real world,” she stated. “I also am very grateful for the veterinary technician at my clinic who helped me feel more comfortable with the exotics that I was not used to handling.”

She was excited to pass her certification test—and prepared for it alongside a coworker also taking the exam. “There are also many cases that I’ve seen in the past year of working at my clinic that have changed my outlook on a lot of things,” she said. “Every case helps me to grow and learn.”
