With more than 11 years experience and having generated more than $13 million in funds for non-profit organizations, Dr. Janell NaKia Harvey is a seasoned fundraising professional dedicated to helping organizations succeed in meeting their fundraising goals.
Harvey, a 2012 graduate of the Doctor of Business Administration in Business Administration program with a concentration in Marketing from Argosy University, Chicago, serves as a Senior Grant Writer for School City East of Chicago where, since her arrival in late 2010, she has raised $3.3 million in grant funds.
Dr. Harvey has wasted little time since graduation, recently publishing a book based on her dissertation work. The book, Historicity, Incorporation and Fund Development: A Broad Look at the Christian Faith Based Sector, offers insight into how to establish faith-based organizations understanding the historicity of the faith-based sector, establishing plans and learning the fundamentals of non-profit development. The book also examines both the historical and current impact that faith-based organizations have on society.
“Argosy University provided me with the research background that I need to become a better professional,” says Harvey. “Grant writing deals greatly with research, and the education that I received helped to enhance my understanding tremendously.”
Harvey serves as a member of the Grant Professionals Association and Co-Chair of the Faith Based Initiatives. She is also a member of the Association of Certified Fundraising Executives, where she serves as a member of the Marketing Committee. She has led grant writing workshops at colleges such as Harvard University and Fordham University.
Dr. Harvey has taught both marketing and proposal development as an adjunct instructor at several colleges and universities. She is the author of "Five M.I.L.E.S from Empty, Fraud Prevention for Proposal Developers" a five step process that leaders can use to detect and eliminate fraud prior to a grant award as well as upon its receipt.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing from Stephens College and a Master of Arts degree in English from Purdue University. She received the Successful Woman in Business Award in 2008 from the National Association of Women in Ministry.
