Investigates Cases of Child Maltreatment and Abuse

Vannice Lawrence is a family service worker investigator for the Department of Human Services. She investigates child maltreatment and child abuse cases.

She says that her decision to pursue an advanced degree has been a goal since high school. Her first marriage, which she describes as abusive, put her education and career goals on hold. Today, she’s married to a supportive husband who has encouraged her to build a career.  “I have faced working two or three jobs [at a time] and now I am working one job because [my earning power has increased],” she says.

Vannice performs community service, counseling others. She’s also served as superintendent of her church’s Sunday school and as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, and choir president.

She recommends that current students work toward their educational goals. “Without an education, [it’s difficult to] maintain a healthy life. You will always have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet.” Vannice adds that her education helped her to realize that she has the right to continue growing through education.

Vannice earned two degrees from Argosy University, Online Programs. In 2015, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and in 2016, she earned a Master of Science in Master of Science in Human Resources Management. “The Argosy University faculty and staff have greatly impacted me, because they cared so deeply for the people [attending school there].”
