Argosy University, Sarasota recently held its first Trauma Institute. The event was streamed on Facebook Live, allowing it to be viewed by counseling professionals from around the world.
The Trauma Institute was developed by Argosy University, Sarasota instructor Dr. Debra Leggett, who presented on the effects of Toxic Stress on children. Dr. Leggett is a traumatologist and certified expert trauma professional. In addition to teaching at Argosy University, she provides training for the International Trauma Training Institute.
Fellow instructor Dr. Bev. Mustaine presented on crisis counseling principles and stages. She’s a certified bereavement specialist and has a small private practice in grief and loss counseling. Dr. Mustaine is also a member of the Florida Crisis Response Team.
The keynote address was presented by Mike Dubi, Ed.D., LMHC,
president of the International Trauma Training Institute (ITTI). Dr. Dubi is an
expert on the training needs of mental health professionals. His presentation
was called Rewiring the Brain to Treat Trauma and addressed the need of 21st
century therapists to understand the importance of the relationship between the
brain and psychotherapy.
