Get Serious about Your Online Courses
Now that you’ve made the decision to earn your Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree online, you’re probably excited about the flexibility the program offers. You think you won’t be bound to the constraints of the traditional brick and mortar college experience, and your time is your own to manage as you see fit.
Hold that thought.
It’s important not to mistake flexibility for an opportunity to slack off. If you truly want to succeed in your online courses, you need to get serious. Check out our tips on how not to fail your online courses.
Routine, Routine, Routine
Even if your schedule errs on the chaotic side, you need to push through the insanity and develop a plan for academic success. The first step is to keep a schedule and stick to it, whether it’s in a notebook, on your cell phone, or on your computer. You might be thinking to yourself “but my schedule varies from one week to the next. How can I manage this?” The answer is to plan as far in advance as you can so that you will have baked in study times you can stick with.
Turn in Your Assignments Early
Most courses will have hard and fast deadlines for assignments, and you’ll likely be given advance notice of due dates. Since the computer is your classroom, you may be tempted to wait until the last minute to submit your work. This can work ok if everything goes smoothly with your computer; however, if you want to avoid any last-minute glitches, aim to submit assignments a day in advance. That way, if you do run into an issue, it won’t be a catastrophic situation with the potential of hurting your final grade.
Remember Why You’re Doing This
Earning a degree online is about bettering your life on your own time. You chose to pursue your degree because you believe you have something unique to offer, and you do. Don’t lose sight of that and keep working hard to make your dreams a reality.
