Announcing the Winners of the Andres Romay Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship

Argosy University, Online Programs– in conjunction with the Education Foundation – is proud to announce the awardees of the Andres Romay Memorial Scholarship!

Andres Romay lived from November 14, 1979 until November 10, 2011. During his life, he touched each individual he came in contact with. Andres was always positive and spread his positivity as a manager within EDMC’s Pre-Admissions Department. Found within his desk were note cards listing what he was grateful for each day. As his parents stated at the time of his funeral, they put a bud out there in the world and it had really blossomed. At the time of his passing, Andres was attending the Argosy University—Phoenix for his Doctoral degree in Business Administration. He believed that achieving smaller successes, such as completing one’s education, leads to the larger successes in one’s life.

Andres would be proud to know his memory lives on in a scholarship that will help individuals fulfill their educational goals.

Congratulations to Miranda McCarty & Douglas Loehner, who have each been awarded a $1000 scholarship!

Miranda McCarty is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and has been academically recognized with an esteemed position on the President’s List for her achievements. When asked what she was grateful for, Miranda said she was grateful for both the good and the bad in her life and that was what shaped the person she is today.

“A few years ago, while sitting in the waiting room of a chiropractor, I read that when a bone is broken, it not only repairs itself, but also becomes stronger at the point of the break. The broken bone is a perfect metaphor for my life. Each time I break, I become even stronger than before…I search for a lesson in everything and walk away a little smarter and a little better.”

Douglas Loehner is working to complete his Bachelor of Science in Business. In addition to being recognized on the President’s List for three continuous semesters, Douglas is also Chairman at his local high school’s scholarship committee that helps high school seniors attend college. When asked what he was grateful for, Douglas said his friends, family, and most notably, his wife.

“I am grateful for [my wife], in that she saw my love for her when I was afraid to show it. I am thankful that she is here with me each day sharing in my joys and success. Without her, I would be an empty shell, forever lost. She helped me find myself when I desperately needed what she longed to receive from me, unconditional love.”
