Earning Your Degree Online – Successful Graduates Share Their Experiences

"/argosyuniversityblog/image.axd?picture=%2f2016%2f09%2fblog+displaced+students.PNG"

There are many reasons to take online classes, but for most people, it comes down to convenience. Being able to log into a classroom from virtually anywhere that has an internet connection makes education accessible to almost everyone. But accessibility and convenience are only one part of the equation. As these graduates of Argosy University, Online Programs explain—it takes dedication and a willingness to push on even when life gets challenging.

Each has a unique perspective on how their online education led them to a new career path—or helped them to grow in a current career. And each faced struggles that they overcame to persevere—and earn their degree.

Stephanie Massey

2014, Doctorate of Education, Organizational Leadership, Argosy University, Online Programs

Self-employed Author and Publisher

“I had no idea that online studying would be so challenging. However with the support of my counselor [at Argosy University, Online Programs), the intelligent facilitators, and fellow colleagues, I graduated with my Doctorate. It gave a whole new meaning to the words ‘it takes a village.’”

Today, Stephanie is excited to have earned the highest level of academic degree. “Attending Argosy University, Online Programs was one of the wisest steps I have taken in life.”

Carlos Zaldivar

2009, Master of Science in Management , Argosy University, Online Programs

Architectural Designer, Franklin Zaldivar Architecture & Planning

“[I chose Argosy University, Online Programs] because I was hoping to move into a different field of work and gain professional accreditation in the administrative part of the architecture industry,” says Carlos.

He believes that his education at Argosy University, Online Programs taught him how to communicate efficiently. Carlos admits that being in an online program was challenging at first, because he was used to working with people in person. Today he says that overcoming that challenge provided an opportunity for growth—and he built strong relationships with both his instructors and classmates. He adds that his instructors empowered him to learn the tools needed to be successful in his industry. “The professionalism and level of expertise [of my instructors] was a sign of leadership and good example to follow.”

Liza Shaftic

2012, Master of Science in Management, Argosy University, Online Programs

Workers Compensation Specialist II, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Liza chose to attend Argosy University, Online Programs because of the school’s management programs. “Each class in the management program helped me to learn organizational skills and time management. [My instructors] were extremely helpful. When I needed them or had a question, they were a phone call away and really helped me during my [time at school].”

But she admits that working full time while attending school was challenging. “It wasn't always easy. When it wasn't, I reminded myself that I was learning something. All of my hard work is what was helping and changing me.”

Transferring to a New Higher Ed Program: It May Be Easier Than You Think

"/argosyuniversityblog/image.axd?picture=%2f2016%2f09%2fwhay+choose+AU+FB.jpg"

You’re committed to completing your degree. But maybe your current program of study isn’t providing the knowledge you hoped it would. Or you’re moving and need to find a new school with a similar program. You want to keep moving forward without losing the school credits you’ve already earned.

At Argosy University, we’re committed to helping students who want to transfer into our programs. We offer evening and weekend class options at our18 locations nationwide. And for those who prefer online education, our online classrooms are open 24/7.

So how does the credit transfer process begin? Start by contacting one of our admissions representatives at 1-888-995-2568. They’ll instruct you to fill out a quick application that includes your previous school’s name and a transcript request form. With that information, we will contact your previous school and request an official transcript.

If you want to get the process moving even more quickly (and you don’t have an official transcript in hand), you can print out your unofficial transcript and we can still start the process. But remember that we’ll need that official transcript for credit transfers to be finalized. There’s no cost for you for us to request your transcript and to begin the transfer of credit evaluation process.

If, for some reason, we are unable to secure the official transcript from your prior school, it’s your responsibility to pay for and acquire it. But don’t worry, we are here to help and we’ll do everything we can to get it ourselves.

What happens next? Once you’ve submitted an application and we’ve seen your official or unofficial transcript, our Transfer of Credit Department will review the classes you’ve taken and compare them to our class offerings. Credit may be given for the classes you’ve taken that match the classes we offer.

Even better—you’ll know within 24 hours how many of your credits may transfer. Your admissions representative will contact you and let you know when you can begin classes. If you’re still waiting on an official transcript, you may still begin to take classes. But you’ll need that official transcript ASAP.

Transfer credit is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Argosy University offers no guarantee that credit earned at another institution will be accepted into a program of study offered by Argosy University.

What if I Want a Complete Change? Transferring into Argosy University provides you with the opportunity to explore your options and think about whether you want to stay with your existing program. If you’re pondering a program change—there’s no time like right now, when you’re transferring, let’s chat!

Are there scholarship opportunities available? Argosy University offers a variety of scholarship and grant opportunities for prospective and current students as well as alumni of our schools. These resources may be restricted to certain programs, campuses, and other requirements and are subject to change at any time. Please visit our Scholarship and Grant Opportunities web page to learn more.

Can my job experience count as credit? Possibly. Examples of learning that may be eligible for credit include:

· Professional certifications such as Certified Addictions Counselor, Professional in Human Resources, Project Management Professional and computer certifications such as A+.

· Professional training such as Police Academy, Corrections Academy, Fire Academy, state required P.O.S.T. training and Six Sigma training.

· Professional licenses such as Real Estate Salesperson and Broker, Insurance Broker, Cosmetologist, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Pharmacy Technician.

· Diplomas such as Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Nurse Aid and Massage Therapy.

· Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) can provide education on a variety of topics, often for little to no cost to the learner. MOOCs may be a low cost means of obtaining additional study materials, but they may also help students earn college credit. For MOOCs with college credit recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE) and National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS), you should submit an official ACE or NCCRS approved transcript of completed MOOCs. MOOCs without ACE or NCCRS credit recommendations may also be submitted for assessment.

There are other options, too, and it’s best to contact an admissions representative to discuss your particular situation. Call 1-855-725-4299 to for more information.

You can learn more about the credit transfer process and view our school’s locations by visiting our credit transfer webpage. Please feel free to call us with questions. If you would like to apply now, click here. And know that we’re behind you, with the support you’ll need to make transferring your credits happen quickly and efficiently.
