Trends in Education 2017: Online Business Degrees

According to US News and World Report , the number of students choosing to take some—or all—of their courses online is increasing. The publication predicts that this year, one of the big trends in online education will include degree offerings in “surprising and specialized disciplines.” This includes programs in business.

At Argosy University, Online Programs, we offer online business programs—and more—in a community online classroom setting that allows you to earn a degree on your schedule.

You may earn a Doctor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, or an Associate of Science in Business Administration .

The business degree job outlook seems positive over the next few years as well. According to the United States Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook lists business and financial management jobs as one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy. Through 2024, there’s expected to be a 14% increase in the number of positions that need to be filled—that’s an increase in 103,400 jobs.

And having a business degree can help you to transition into this growing marketplace. The convenience of online learning allows you to build your education even as you work a full-time job or care for family members.

Transferring to a New Higher Ed Program: It May Be Easier Than You Think

With the recent news that ITT Technical Institute (ITT Tech) had closed its doors, displaced students are looking for options to complete their degrees. They’ve put in semesters of work and many were months from graduation. Thankfully, the school’s closure doesn’t mean that they need to start over—in most cases, they may transfer college credits and begin taking classes almost immediately at a new school.

At Argosy University, we’re committed to helping former ITT Tech students to complete their undergraduate degrees. We know it’s your goal to get back to learning—to complete your degree. We’ll help you to make it a reality.

We offer evening and weekend class options at our 18 locations nationwide to meet your busy schedule. Still worried that it can’t fit your lifestyle? Then complete your degree through our online classrooms, open 24/7.

Argosy University is currently accepting transfer applications from former ITT Tech students for admission into programs in the areas of Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Medical Assisting, and Psychology.

So how does the credit transfer process begin? Start by contacting one of our admissions representatives at 1-855-725-4299. They’ll instruct you to fill out a quick application that includes your previous school’s name and a transcript request form. With that information, we will contact your previous school and request an official transcript.

If you want to get the process moving even more quickly (and you don’t have an official transcript in hand), you can print out your unofficial transcript and we can still start the process. But remember that we’ll need that official transcript for credit transfers to be finalized. There’s no cost for you for us to request your transcript and to begin the transfer of credit evaluation process.

If, for some reason, we are unable to secure the official transcript from your prior school, it’s your responsibility to pay for and acquire it. But don’t worry, we are here to help and we’ll do everything we can to get it ourselves.

What happens next? Once you’ve submitted an application and we’ve seen your official or unofficial transcript, our Transfer of Credit Department will review the classes you’ve taken and compare them to our class offerings. Credit may be given for the classes you’ve taken that match the classes we offer.

Even better—you’ll know within 24 hours how many of your credits may transfer. Your admissions representative will contact you and let you know when you can begin classes. If you’re still waiting on an official transcript, you may still begin to take classes. But you’ll need that official transcript ASAP.

Transfer credit is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Argosy University offers no guarantee that credit earned at another institution will be accepted into a program of study offered by Argosy University.

Which programs can I potentially transfer into? Argosy University’s undergraduate programs in the areas of Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Medical Assisting, and Psychology have course equivalency to programs that had been offered at ITT Tech.

Transferring into Argosy University also gives you the opportunity to explore your options and think about whether you want to stay with your existing program. If you’re looking for a program change—there’s no time like right now, when you’re transferring.

Are there scholarship opportunities available? Argosy University offers many scholarship and grant opportunities for prospective and current students as well as alumni of our schools. These resources may be restricted to certain programs, campuses, and other requirements and are subject to change at any time. Please visit our Scholarship and Grant Opportunities web page to learn more.

Can my job experience count as credit? Possibly. Examples of learning that may be eligible for credit include:

· Professional certifications such as Certified Addictions Counselor, Professional in Human Resources, Project Management Professional and computer certifications such as A+.

· Professional training such as Police Academy, Corrections Academy, Fire Academy, state required P.O.S.T. training and Six Sigma training.

· Professional licenses such as Real Estate Salesperson and Broker, Insurance Broker, Cosmetologist, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Pharmacy Technician.

· Diplomas such as Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Nurse Aid and Massage Therapy.

· Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) can provide education on a variety of topics, often for little to no cost to the learner. MOOCs may be a low cost means of obtaining additional study materials, but they may also help students earn college credit. For MOOCs with college credit recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE) and National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS), you should submit an official ACE or NCCRS approved transcript of completed MOOCs. MOOCs without ACE or NCCRS credit recommendations may also be submitted for assessment.

There are other options, too, and it’s best to contact an admissions representative to discuss your particular situation. Call 1-855-725-4299 to for more information.

You can learn more about the credit transfer process and view our school’s locations by visiting our credit transfer webpage. Please feel free to call us with questions. And know that we’re behind you, with the support you’ll need to make transferring your credits happen quickly and efficiently.
